Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems or Tems Baby, has achieved several remarkable milestones in her career. She rose to prominence in 2019 when she released her single ‘Try me’ which amassed over 10 million views on YouTube. She further became known internationally after her feature in ‘Essence’ by Wizkid, a song that was released in 2020 and accepted globally.
The 27-year-old singer and songwriter has numerous collaborations with top-rated international artistes, and has achieved numerous feats in her career. Here are 5 of her greatest achievements:
1. Winning her first Grammys.
At the 65th annual Grammys, she won the award for the best melodic rap performance for the song Wait For U by Future featuring Drake. With this win, she becomes the first Nigerian female artiste to win a GRAMMY award.
2. She has a songwriting credit on Beyoncé’s ‘Renaissance’ album.
Beyoncé credited Tems as one of the songwriters of Move, the 10th track of Renaissance – her latest album. It is not news that Beyoncé is one of the greatest artistes of all time, and the one with the most won Grammys. It was such a great achievement to have Tems work with Beyoncé.

3. She won 2 BET awards.
In June 2022, the Crazy Things crooner bagged 2 BET awards. She won the best international Act, and the best collaboration in the song, Essence. With these wins, she becomes the first African female artiste to win 2 BET awards.
4. She has an Oscar nomination.
Her contribution to Rihanna’s ‘Lift me up‘, a soundtrack for Black Panther: Wakanda forever, earned her an Oscar nomination in the category of Best Original song.
5. She is the Nigerian with the most entries on the Billboard Hot 100.
The Billboard Hot 100 is the standard record chart for songs, and it’s usually published weekly. Essence (remix), ft Wizkid & Justin Beiber, was among the top 10 entries on the Billboard. Future’s Wait For You debuted at number one. This made her the first African artist to top the Billboard. Her single, ‘Free mind‘ also debuted on the Billboard. Her 5th entry on the Billboard is Beyoncé’s Move from the album, Renaissance. These altogether made her the Nigerian with the most entries on the Billboard.
All these wins, and more, has shown that Tems is a gem in the music industry and has inarguably proven herself worthy of her wins.
